Today starts Banned Books Week which celebrates the freedom to read. Banned Books Week runs from September 27 to October 2, 2010.
It is amazing that an act like banning books is still happening throughout the country. According to the American Library Association there were at least 460 books banned in 2009, and that 70-80% of banned books are never reported.

Today is National Punctuation Day. Punctuation seems to be unappreciated in today’s world. Our kids can’t imagine what a semicolon would be for, if not as a wink. Punctuation is vital. It gives meaning to a string of words. Ambiguity would run rampant if not for punctuation.
Today we honor the comma; we remember the importance of the apostrophe. Today we recognize that without the quotation mark, we might just be living in anarchy.
