Oh, no! Today is Friday the 13th! That’s unlucky, right? That’s what we’re told, and for people with triskaidekaphobia, the 13th is always unlucky. But why is 13 unlucky? Where does this superstition come from?
Today is July 13, Barbershop Music Appreciation Day! I love barbershop music. I love it in its purest and most kitschiest form (four guys in stripes and flat hats singing Glow Worm), and in more modern twists.
By the way, today is also Embrace Your Geekness Day, so here is a video that fulfills both. (Yeah, my geekness is screaming that it should say geekiness too, but it’s doesn’t so get over it.)
Today, is National Go Barefoot Day – June 1, 2010. Since I cannot go barefoot at work, I’m going to celebrate by walking through the moss in the backyard…barefoot. Maybe I’ll even walk the neighborhood barefoot.
It’s the start of April, and of course, with that comes April Fool’s Day. I absolutely love this day. It’s one of my favorite silly holidays. Today, do your best to pull one over on someone. It’s harder to pull an April Fools joke than to pull a prank any other day of the year – they are sort of expecting something. However, when you’re successful, it is all the more satisfying.
Today is Pi Day and people worldwide will celebrate π, that beautiful and infinite constant that is universal to us all.

February 21, 2010 is International Mother Language Day celebrating linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. It is an annual day that was proclaimed by the UN in 1999, because “languages are the most powerful instruments of preserving and developing our tangible and intangible heritage”.
