Girl Scout Day 0

Happy Birthday, Girl Scouts! We are in the midst of Girl Scout Week, which runs from March 07 to March 13 this year. Girl Scout Week surrounds March 12, today, which is the birthday of the Girl Scouts. Juliette “Daisy” Gordon Low started the Girl Scouts on March 12, 1912, when she assembled 18 girls from Savannah, Georgia. Today there are over 3.4 million members, with another 50 million women who are alumnae. (source)

National Girls and Women in Sports Day 0

Women’s sports have come a long way since Title IX was enacted in 1972.  In my high school a few years ago, we had a girl on the football team, and two more on the wrestling team.

We’ve come a long way, but even now, thirty eight years later, the money allotted to girls’ sports does not compare to that of boys’ programs.

2010 is the 24th year of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, with this year’s theme being “Stay Strong, Play On.”
