National Teen Dating Violence Awareness Week 0

Feb1

February 1-5, 2010 is National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Week.

XP has covered this issue well on National Teen Dating Violence Awareness Week.  Here are some startling statistics:

  • 1 in 3 female teenagers in a dating relationship has feared for her physical safety.
  • 1 in 5 teenagers in a serious relationship reports having been hit, slapped, or pushed by a partner.
  • 29 percent of girls who have been in a relationship said that they have been pressured to have sex or to engage in sexual activities that they did not want.
  • Technologies such as cell phones and the Internet have made dating abuse both more pervasive and more hidden.  (source)

Transgender Rememberance Day 0

The Transgender Day of Remembrance was set aside to remember and give respect to those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice.

Violence towards ANYONE is reprehensible.

55% of transgender youth report being physically attacked. 74% of transgender youth reported being sexually harassed at school, and 90% of transgender youth reported feeling unsafe at school because of their gender expression. 33.2% of transgender youth have attempted suicide. (source)

The statistics are startling.
