January 17-23 is Handwriting Analysis Week. Science or not, people are fascinated with what a person’s handwriting might say about them.
What I do know, is that my handwriting has changed drastically since high school. Every year when I vote, I see the copy of my signature from my original voter registration card from when I was 18. I must sign below it, and I’m surprised they accept my signature at all. Looking at the two next to each other, even I would suspect voter fraud.

Today’s date is 01/02/2010 – and that’s a palindrome!
A palindrome is the same forwards and backwards. Words like racecar and kayak are palindromes, as are phrases like “Able was I ere I saw Elba”, and “A Man A Plan A Canal: Panama”.
Did you miss this Palindrome Day? Well you can have one more quick go around on January 11, if you write the date 01/11/10, and once more on 01/22/10. After that, you’ve got a year to wait.
If you like palindromes, then you just might be a wordaholic. Check out

November 9-13 is National Young Readers Week, co-sponsored by Pizza Hut and the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress. Pizza Hut runs the Book It! program and does a lot to encourage children to read. As a former Book It! kid, I know that this is a valuable program.
I believe that the best way to get kids to read is to give them a GREAT book – a story they would enjoy and want to read. One amazing book can do a lot to foster the love of reading.
LindaJM has made a series of lenses on Newbery Award Winning Books. This is the perfect place to look for extraordinary children literature.

I bet Betty Botter is baking her buns off and Peter Piper is picking some pickled peppers, because today is International Tongue Twister Day!

November is National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo, as it is affectionately called. This month, participants challenge themselves to write and entire novel (of at least 50,000 words) in just thirty days.
Everyone who finishes their novel is a winner. Last year, NaNoWriMo had 119,301 participants and 21,683 winners.
Lensmaster EelKat is currently participating in NaNoWriMo for the fifth time – she has won three times!
